This team will be chaired by Elana Leopold as executive director.
“In the next few months, my team and I will build a city hall capable of realizing our campaign promises,” Mamdani told reporters, as quoted
The Guardian
.
Khan was an aggressive antitrust regulator while leading the FTC under President Joe Biden. His appointment to the transition team shows that Mamdani intends to take a full stand against the US oligarchy.
Mamdani’s administration in New York City will face a “tough road” as President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened not to pour federal funds into the city if Mamdani is mayor.
Even so, Trump has stated that he will still provide funds in the “minimum amount” required by the state.
Mamdani meanwhile said that the White House had not contacted him after he won the general election (election) on Tuesday (4/11).After challenging Trump in his victory speech, Mamdani has now said he is open to talking to the President when it comes to the interests of New Yorkers.
“I am interested in discussing with President Trump about ways in which we can work together to serve New Yorkers, both to fulfill his campaign promises regarding the cost of living and on the various issues that residents have raised with me about the drastic impact the laws that President Trump passed will have on them and their lives,” he said.
At the same time, Mamdani also invited his supporters to start donating again to fund the transition steps towards January 1.
“A few months ago, I asked supporters to stop donating, and today I asked them to start again,” said Mamdani.
Mamdani explained that his transition team would need staff, research and infrastructure, all of which would require funding.
“I’m happy that this project will be funded by the people who have brought us to this point. The workers who have been left behind by the politics of this city,” he said.
