This action is a form of moral support from the Twente squad to the naturalized defender of the Indonesian National Team who is currently recovering from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury suffered during training.

The injury that befell Hilgers was a heavy blow, especially because this season he has not appeared once for Twente due to the contract negotiation situation which has not yet come to a conclusion. The player’s contract will end on June 30 2026.
Since the start of the season, relations between Hilgers and the club are said to have begun to strain, especially after his plans to move to another club in the last transfer market failed to materialize.Twente then chose not to field Hilgers in official matches while the negotiation process was ongoing, citing internal club policy.
Twente’s move received scrutiny from various parties, including the Dutch Football Players Association (VVCS) and a number of sports journalists, who considered the policy to have the potential to harm the player’s career.
