Vehicles piled up because they were waiting for ferry boats.However, the ship had difficulty docking due to bad weather.
“The situation at the Merak Port pier is no longer friendly, there is a slowdown in the docking lanes for loading and unloading. People who want to go to Merak Port can rest first in the rest area while waiting for the weather situation to start to level off,” said Head of the Cilegon Police Traffic Unit, AKP Ridwan, when contacted, Thursday (18/12).

The increase in vehicles is also influenced by the flow of homecoming for Christmas and New Year holidays.Since Wednesday (17/12) evening at around 20.00 WIB a queue of vehicles has been snaking on the route towards the port.
Jalan Cikuasa Atas to the Indah Kiat Harbor pier has been used as a parking pocket to accommodate vehicles heading to Merak Harbor.A road opening and closing system was implemented.
“Buffer zones have also been prepared, both at Indah Kiat Harbor and on Jalan Cikuasa Atas to temporarily accommodate vehicles that will cross from Merak to Bakauheni,” he explained.
Motorists heading to Merak Harbor can rest at a number of rest areas on the Jakarta Merak, Tangerang-Merak toll roads, or exit first via the East Serang, West Serang, East Cilegon or West Cilegon Toll Gates (GT), then look for a place to rest, in the form of a mosque, gas station or restaurant.
“If you’re still on the toll road, you can rest for a moment at the rest area while waiting for current monitoring and developments at Merak Port. You can rest anywhere, you can exit first in Serang, exit East or West Cilegon, that’s okay,” he explained.
