“I received information that for the cities of Lhokseumawe, North Aceh and Bireuen, road bridges were cut off both [from] Banda Aceh and [from] Medan,” he said when meeting the victims at the Lhokseumawe City Islamic Center Mosque.
Tito stated that his visit to Lhokseumawe City was aimed at ensuring whether the airport, pier and roads in the area were in good condition. He also wants to see improvements to the electricity network which are currently still underway.”I have discussed with the Mayor what is needed,” added Tito.
The Minister of Home Affairs also emphasized the importance of increasing logistics supplies in the area.”In principle, regarding food, this is what I will bring here immediately this afternoon. I convey, both through communication and directly, that logistics must be added. Both food, then also clothing, other necessities, pampers, including fuel (fuel oil),” he stressed.
He also highlighted the importance of ensuring fuel availability in Lhokseumawe City.Even though the queues at Public Fuel Filling Stations (SPBU) are not as long as in Pidie Jaya Regency, he emphasized the need to strengthen fuel stocks.”It’s better to have an advantage than a shortage, that’s our principle,” he added.
On this occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs also distributed aid to the victims. The assistance is in the form of baby milk, cooking oil, diapers and other food ingredients.”So I apologize, I probably didn’t convey this [aid] much, it was only symbolic as material for me to lure other friends, then the private sector as well, and the central government,” said Tito.
On the other hand, the Minister of Home Affairs asked the local regional government (Pemda) to immediately calculate the minimum logistics needs for the next two weeks, considering that bridge access is still cut off.”I asked for an estimate of the required figures, what goods, what figures. At least to last two weeks. Because we don’t know how long it will take for this bridge to be completed,” he said.
The Minister of Home Affairs also revealed that the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) had instructed TNI ranks to build an emergency bridge. This is based on information from the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin during a joint inspection in Pidie Jaya Regency.
“He has ordered the TNI ranks to collect data and then build a temporary bridge that can withstand, what is it called, for large vehicles to pass through. Well, we hope this is as soon as possible,” he said.
The Minister of Home Affairs believes that if the construction of the temporary bridge is carried out well, logistics distribution will run smoothly. However, while the bridge is not adequate, the logistical needs of disaster victims will be the government’s priority.”We are all concerned and grieved. But we are working hard together to resolve this disaster problem,” he stressed.
