China
free to enter Indonesia without needing certification.
He gave the example of a watch from China that came in without a label, then was given an Indonesian label.
This, he said, is different from Indonesian products which have to take care of various permits, such as halal certification, Indonesian national standards (SNI), and permits from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM).

“For Chinese goods entering Indonesia, they don’t need to go through any kind of licensing certification, as if goods from abroad are absolutely true to everything they say,” said Maman at the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) at Park Hyatt, Jakarta, Tuesday (1/12).
“But for Indonesian goods, local MSMEs, must first pass NIB (business registration number), take care of halal certificates, then SNI (Indonesian National Standards), then (permit) BPOM (Food and Drug Monitoring Agency), and so on,” he continued.
The rise of imported products puts local MSMEs at risk even if they are provided with large financing or great training.Because of this, the government is determined to close the entry points for imported goods, especially illegal ones.
He said the Ministry of Finance had begun to regulate the Directorate General of Customs so that it would not be easy to open the gates for imported goods.
When imported goods are prohibited from entering, the government will encourage local products to flood the domestic market.
“Without any bias in closing or limiting goods from outside, I want to say that you should never think that our MSMEs can develop rapidly,” he said.
Previously, Researcher at the Center for Industry, Trade and Investment, Indef, Ahmad Heri Firdaus, revealed that illegal imported goods entered through rat ports or unofficial ports.
Therefore, Heri believes that action against illegal imported goods must be directly commanded by President Prabowo Subianto.
“Illegal imports should have the president directly in command. With Indonesia’s vast area and the many ports that have the potential to become rat harbors, it is a challenge for us to maintain the security of illegal imported products,” he said in a virtual Public Discussion of Responses to Economic Growth for the Third Quarter of 2025, Thursday (6/11).
Heri reminded that illegal imported products that have entered the Indonesian market will be difficult to detect. This certainly threatens the competitiveness of domestic products.
Imported goods also enter the Indonesian market without being subject to high import duties.Meanwhile, local products have to bear greater taxes.
“It’s easy to import, it comes in haphazardly. We can buy it freely on the marketplace. We don’t know how safe it is, we don’t know the origin of the product, whether it pays taxes properly,” he said.
