“The Ministry of Culture has worked together to raise aid funds for disaster response in this early stage of mitigation. We have raised approximately 1.5 billion in funds, and of course later it will be channeled through the Cultural Preservation Centers in Aceh, North Sumatra and also in West Sumatra,” said Fadli Zon.
Logistical assistance was handed over directly by the Head of the Region II Cultural Preservation Center (BPK), Sukronedi, at Silangit Air Base, North Tapanuli, Saturday (6/12).
The aid distributed includes basic needs, food, sanitation equipment and other logistical support needed during the emergency response period.
Head of BPK Region II, Sukronedi, said aid packages would be sent to the affected areas to ensure the community could receive support quickly.
“This assistance will be distributed to four districts affected by the disaster, including Central Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, North Tapanuli and Sibolga. Hopefully it can be sent immediately to the people affected by the disaster,” said Sukronedi.
Sukronedi also ensured that coordination between the Ministry of Culture and BNPB continued so that the distribution process could run effectively according to conditions in the field.
The floods that hit a number of districts in Sumatra have affected thousands of residents and disrupted people’s social and economic activities.Apart from damage to settlements, this disaster also poses additional challenges for efforts to protect local cultural heritage which is also threatened by extreme weather conditions and overflowing rivers.
This humanitarian support is part of the Ministry of Culture’s presence with the community, especially in handling disasters and situations that require immediate assistance.
This commitment is a reminder that preserving culture cannot be separated from community resilience, and helping residents recover from disasters is part of the government’s moral and social responsibility.
