The Ministry of Finance divides tobacco product excise rates (CHT) based on categories, namely machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), machine-made white cigarettes (SPM) and white kretek cigarettes (SKP).Each group is charged a different rate.
Febrio said the government’s goal is to create a healthier market, as well as a form of support to encourage industrial sustainability. He said the area was planned to be launched in December 2025.
“So, if they are in the SKT group, hand-rolled kretek, this is usually at the bottom. We hope they can enter the tobacco products industrial area,” said Febrio.
“We prepare this, we facilitate it. That means, we help them so that they can no longer carry out illegal activities, but become legal. So, then he goes to class,” he continued.
Minister of Finance Purbaya’s subordinate also emphasized that there is no quota system.Febrio said everything depends on demand from the public, which is then translated by the tobacco products industry into buying excise stamps.
Previously, the circulation of illegal cigarettes became the concern of Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. He wants to regulate cigarettes that do not pay excise because it is detrimental to the cigarette industry, which has been obedient to paying excise for years.
Purbaya has ordered his men to step up action against illegal cigarettes. He also asked
marketplace
prohibit the sale of illegal cigarettes.
Apart from that, he wants to limit the movement of illegal cigarette producers.
“So we are tidying up the market, we are closing our market to illegal goods, for illegal domestic producers we are inviting them to enter a more legal system into the Tobacco Products Industrial Zone or KIHT with a certain tariff, we are currently creating it and we are encouraging it, it should start in December,” said Purbaya during a working meeting with Committee IV DPD, Jakarta, quoted on Tuesday (4/11).
