RI revealed that the number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) in 2025 is estimated to reach 564,000 people.
This data was submitted by the Chair of the Indonesian Ministry of Health’s HIV-AIDS Working Team, Tiersa Vera Junita.Of this number, only 68 percent or around 385,000 people know their HIV status.
However, of the group whose status was known, only around 260,000 patients accessed antiretroviral (ARV) therapy.This means that there are still around 37 percent of patients who have not started treatment.

“Then, of PLHIV under treatment, there are 56 percent or approximately 155,000 PLHIV whose viral load test results are suppressed,” said Tiersa at the 2025 World AIDS Day (HAS) commemoration event, as reported

“So, even for PLHIV who are already on treatment, only around 60 percent have had their viral load checked,” he continued.
According to Tiersa, the low coverage of viral load testing and unequal access to therapy indicate that there are still large gaps in HIV treatment in Indonesia.
On the other hand, Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono emphasized that stigma is still a serious challenge in dealing with HIV.He said stigma often hinders the process of testing, treatment and patient evaluation.
According to him, the growing stigma in society makes many people reluctant to take an HIV test, afraid to come to a health facility, and worried about their status being known by others, including in the work environment.
This condition ultimately prevents HIV sufferers from getting the early diagnosis or therapy they need.
“Stigma is a growing disruption in society,” said Dante.
He emphasized that stigma must be suppressed because wrong perceptions can directly affect the success of HIV control programs in Indonesia.
