(1995), Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa died on Thursday (4/12) in Santa Barbara, California, United States.Tagawa died at the age of 75 years.
Penny Vizcara as the publicist for the Japanese-American actor confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa died due to complications from a stroke.

The ex-wife who was married to Tagawa for 30 years, Sally Phillips, and is the mother of their two children also remembered her ex-husband.
“Cary came to LA and started teaching his own style of martial arts called Chu Shin,” Phillips said.”He was discovered by [Bernardo] Bertolucci and got his first film role, The Last Emperor.”

Born in Tokyo on September 27, 1950, Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa’s childhood was spent moving around the United States, including North Carolina, Louisiana, and Texas.
This was because he followed his father’s work in the US Army, before finally settling in Southern California.
Although he became interested in acting while attending Duarte High School, he originally came to Los Angeles to teach a martial arts style he called Chusin.
Tagawa’s biggest career breakthrough came in 1987 when the great Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci chose him to play Chang in The Last Emperor, a biopic about China’s last emperor.
After that, his name skyrocketed as an Asian actor in Hollywood.His most iconic role was as the antagonist, Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat (1995).

He reprized the character in the series Mortal Kombat: Legacy (2013) and voiced the character in the game Mortal Kombat 11.
In addition, Tagawa is also known for his appearances in a number of films and series, including Rising Sun (1993), Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), Pearl Harbor (2001), Planet of the Apes (2001), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), and the popular series The Man in the High Castle (2015).
