“We don’t understand because we didn’t make it. It’s outside our authority, we don’t know (about the letter of assistance addressed to the UN),” said Mualem in the courtyard of the Aceh Governor’s Office, Tuesday (16/12).
Mualem explained that the letter was not to the UN but to NGOs that still have programs in Aceh.
“Not to the UN but to NGOs in Aceh,” he said.
Meanwhile, Aceh Government Spokesperson Muhammad MTA explained that what the Aceh Governor meant was not a direct letter to the UN Office in New York, America, but rather a letter to institutions that have offices in Indonesia.
Currently, said Muhammad, Unicef and UNDP still have an integrated program with the Central Government in Aceh until next April. So his party asked for support for disaster management.
“So this is not directly to the UN office in New York, what the Governor means is a letter to institutions in Indonesia, so we don’t see whether he is affiliated with the UN or not, so what’s wrong if they are affiliated with the UN but they are also strategic partners of the central government,” he continued.
Muhammad said that after the letter was sent, there were pros and cons which made it seem as if the Governor of Aceh had stepped over President Prabowo.According to him, the Governor of Aceh did not mean that.
“It’s as if what was built was the rhythm of the Governor stepping over the president to directly send a letter to the UN, that’s what was built, so there are pros and cons,” he said.
Previously, the information center of the UN representative office in Indonesia confirmed that the Aceh Government’s official letter had been received by Unicef and UNDP.
Head of UNDP Indonesia Representative, Sara Ferrer Olivella, confirmed that the letter was received on Sunday (14/12).Currently, the party is reviewing the form of support that will be provided to the affected areas.
“Currently, UNDP is reviewing the best form of support that can be provided to national responders or disaster management teams and affected communities, in line with our mandate for early recovery,” said Sara Ferrer in a written statement to
