Alias Mualem is angry after finding data increasingly rampant illegal mining activities in the area.He knew the information was based on a special report on the special committee (Pansus), coal, and the Aceh DPR’s oil and gas.
Mualem even issued an ultimatum to illegal miners to immediately pull their heavy equipment from the forest of Aceh.He stressed that he would take decisive steps if the heavy equipment was still operating for the next two weeks.
“Specifically for illegal gold mining, I give time starting today, all illegal gold mines that have heavy equipment must be immediately removed from the Aceh forest,” Mualem said during a press conference on Thursday (9/25).

“If not, then after 2 weeks from now, we will take firm steps,” he continued.
The Aceh DPR Special Committee said that the illegal mining activity was allegedly backed by the authorities.Assparat is even said to receive a ‘security money’ deposit from an operating illegal mine.
On the other hand, Mualem explained that illegal mining activities damaged the environment and did not help regional income.That reason also made the Governor of Aceh will issue the Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) about the structuring of the mine.
“Because the illegal mine so far has been damaged by the environment and does not benefit regional income. In recent days, I will issue ingubs to the Mayor Regent related to the arrangement and control,” he said.
Secretary of the Aceh DPR Pansus Nurdiansyah Alasta explained the results of the investigation found the destruction of the environmental impact of illegal mining practices.
The environmental damage was allegedly carried out by the perpetrators while working with law enforcement officials, investors, and illegal oil entrepreneurs.
Hundreds of illegal mining points
There are 450 illegal mining points scattered in various districts, including Aceh Jaya, West Aceh, Nagan Raya, Southwest Aceh, South Aceh, Gayo Lues, Central Aceh, and Pidie.
“The natural and environmental conditions of Aceh were destroyed by the practice of illegal mining carried out blindly by parties who collaborated with law enforcement officials,” Nurdiansyah said in a plenary meeting at the Aceh DPR, Thursday (9/25).
From the Special Committee’s findings, around 1,000 excavator units operate actively in these locations.Each excavator is allegedly required to deposit Rp30 million per month to the authorities in his working area as a form of ‘security money’.
If calculated, the number of illegal deposits reaches Rp360 billion per year.This practice, according to Nurdiansyah, has also been going on for a long time and is left without any serious eradication efforts.
Based on these findings, the DPR Special Committee urged the Governor of Aceh to immediately close all illegal mines.The Special Committee also recommends that mining management be given legally to village cooperatives.
