“The number of people who will celebrate Christmas and New Year is estimated at around 119.5 million people. This has doubled compared to last year,” he added.
Dedi said that the peak of the Nataru homecoming flow itself is predicted to occur on December 20 and 24 2025. Meanwhile, the peak return flow is predicted to occur on December 28 2025 and January 4 2026.
Furthermore, Dedi said that the focus on security during the Christmas holiday period this year was quite different from previous years. This is because extreme weather is also predicted to occur from December 29 to January 10.
“The prediction from BMKG is that rainfall from January 29 to 10 will experience quite an extreme increase, namely in Java, then Lampung, Jambi then Bali, NTT and NTB. We need to anticipate this too,” he said.
Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ordered all ranks to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Senyar during the implementation of Operation Lilin 2025.
Operation Candle 2025 will begin during the 2026 Christmas and New Year holidays for 14 days from December 20 to January 4.
Sigit reminded all members to increase their vigilance and pay special attention to preparing mitigation steps that might be taken.
“It is an important note that this time we are facing the potential for Cyclone Senyar which will then turn back towards Java, towards Sulawesi,” he said at the Cross-Sectoral Coordination Meeting, quoted on Tuesday (16/12).
