August 2025 and has gone to court to be released.
According to Jimly they should be free even if the demonstrators made a mistake.
“There’s no need to go to prison. Even though he was wrong, he was acquitted in the district court, but was taken again by the prosecutor to the high court to the supreme court,” he said as quoted

At the court stage, said Jimly, the judge was obliged to consider the guilty verdict against the thousands of August demonstrators by looking at whether there was someone’s malicious intent in their actions.
“So, for the cases that have been submitted [we should] not just look for mistakes. But look for them

Apart from that, Jimly hopes that the judge who tried the August demonstrators will not repeat the decision requiring the President to remove his privileges, reflecting on the acquittal of the defendant in the alleged PT ASDP Ferry Indonesian corruption case, Ira Puspadewi.
“Hopefully the judge will not repeat decisions that require the president to step in to grant pardon, amnesty, abolition and rehabilitation,” he said.
Jimly explained that the police were conducting an evaluation regarding the arrest of thousands of demonstrators in August and that a number of suspects who had gone to trial could not be released.
“They’re just evaluating, if they go to court, they can’t do it anymore,” he said.
Jimly further claimed that the National Police had released a number of suspects arrested from various regions in Indonesia.
“There are already some, some have been reduced. There are in several areas,” said Jimly.
Previously (4/12), the National Police Reform Acceleration Team asked the National Police Chief, General Pol.Listyo Sigit Prabowo to review the crackdown on thousands of demonstrators during the demonstration at the end of August 2025.
The National Police Reform Team also recommended that the police consider reducing law enforcement for the thousands of August demonstrators who were arrested.
