“They are two leaders who have deep experience in guiding our city and state through difficult times,” said Mamdani on Monday (10/11), quoted
Politico
.
Mamdani then said, “[They] have the fresh, innovative ideas needed to transform our city, as well as the expertise to help me realize the campaign promises that more than 1 million New Yorkers have embraced.”
Fuleihan was also previously deputy mayor under Bill de Blasio for the 2014-2021 period. He has worked in New York government for nearly five decades.
Meanwhile, Bisgaard Church is a 34-year-old Democratic socialist. He was also Mamdani’s campaign manager during the Democratic primary.
Given the people selected, Mamdani will likely run a government like Blasio. This sign is visible even from his campaign which focuses on inequality.
However, Mamdani said don’t expect a repeat. He emphasized that he would build a new City Hall.
“This City Hall will rely on experts in the field of government, such as our first deputy mayor candidate, but not City Hall which will rely on the previous government as a role model that we will emulate word for word, step by step,” he said.
Mamdani won the general election for mayor of New York last week.He managed to defeat independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
During the campaign, he promised Mamdani to make buses free, provide child care services, and adjust housing rental prices in New York to make them more affordable.
He also promised to protect Jews from antisemitism, and people who did not vote for him.
