The areas affected by the disaster are Central Tapanuli, Sibolga, North Tapanuli, South Tapanuli, Mandailing Natal, Pakpak Bharat, Humbang Hasundutan, Nias, Padangsidimpuan, Langkat, South Nias, Serdangbedagai, Medan, Deliserdang, Tanah Karo, Tebingtinggi, Batubara, Binjai and Asahan.
“North Sumatra Regional Police moved quickly to respond to the high intensity of rainfall which triggered floods, landslides, fallen trees and tornadoes in various areas from 24 to 27 November 2025,” he explained.
According to Ferry, the worst affected areas include Central Tapanuli Regency (Tapteng), Sibolga City, North Tapanuli Regency (Taput), South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel), and the Medan City area.
“Most of the victims were recorded in the Sibolga, Tapsel and Humbahas Police areas. The North Sumatra Police Chief has ordered all ranks to speed up the search for missing victims and prioritize handling isolated areas,” he stressed.
The North Sumatra Regional Police Ditsamapta also carries out emergency response patrols, logistics distribution to hard-to-reach areas, first aid and trauma healing, cleaning of affected houses and public facilities.
“Not only that, the North Sumatra Regional Police’s ICT Division personnel have provided a Starlink-based internet network for communication between residents and SAR teams, ensuring the HT/Repeater function so that communication is not interrupted, then integrating disaster data into the Regional Police Command Center,” he explained.
The North Sumatra Regional Police also applied for helicopter assistance and additional support facilities to the National Police Headquarters to speed up the distribution of aid to isolated locations such as Sibolga and Central Tapanuli.
“As a follow-up step, the North Sumatra Regional Police coordinated with the National Police Headquarters to request assistance from BKO helicopters to support the evacuation process and logistics distribution, especially to isolated areas. Efforts to search for victims who are still missing also continue to be strengthened through integrated SAR operations,” he concluded.
However, the data released by the North Sumatra Regional Police is very different from the data released by the North Sumatra Provincial Government.
The North Sumatra Provincial Government noted that at least 10 districts/cities experienced the impact of floods and landslides, namely Central Tapanuli, Sibolga, North Tapanuli, Mandailing Natal, Humbang Hasundutan, Pakpak Bharat, Langkat, Padangsidimpuan and South Nias.It was reported that a total of 30 people died in North Sumatra and approximately 4,035 residents were displaced.
