“What is certain is that this alleged criminal act of corruption is an alleged act of extortion related to the budget at the PUPR Service,” said KPK spokesperson, Budi Prasetyo, at his office, Jakarta, Tuesday (4/11) evening.

From this operation, the KPK arrested a total of 10 people.They include the Governor of Riau Abdul Wahid, Head of the PUPR-PKPP Service Muhammad Arief Setiawan, Secretary of the PUPR-PKPP Service Ferry Yunanda, and Tata Maulana, who is known to be Abdul Wahid’s confidant.
Apart from that, another person named Dani M. Nursalam who served as Expert Staff for the Governor of Riau also surrendered himself on Tuesday (4/11) evening.
The Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) also confiscated a sum of money in rupiah denominations, United States dollars and pounds sterling with a total equivalent to IDR 1.6 billion.
“Apart from the parties arrested, the team also secured evidence in the form of money in the form of rupiah, US dollars and pounds sterling, which if converted into rupiah is around IDR 1.6 billion,” said Budi.
Before being arrested, Abdul Wahid’s whereabouts were unknown and was finally arrested by the KPK team at a cafe in the Riau area.The arrest took place on Monday (3/11) evening, not long after the KPK team first arrested a number of officials within the local PUPR Service.
Budi added that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has carried out an exposure or case title to determine the parties who should be legally responsible.However, he could not yet reveal who was officially named a suspect.
“How many have been named as suspects and who they are, we will convey tomorrow at a press conference,” he said.
