Nahdlatul Ulama Elders & Mustasyar Forum
held another meeting to discuss the internal conflict of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (
PBNU
) at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java, Saturday (6/12).
Through the forum spokesperson, who is also the spokesperson for the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, KH Oing Abdul Muid or Gus Muid, the senior NU kiai admitted that they had discovered serious violations allegedly committed by PBNU General Chair Yahya Cholil Staquf.
“The forum also saw that there was strong information about serious violations or errors in decision making by the General Chair, which needed to be clarified through a comprehensive organizational mechanism,” read one of the forum’s conclusions, when delivered by Gus Muid, Saturday evening.

However, said Gus Muid, the Nahdlatul Ulama Elders & Mustasyar Forum is also of the view that the process of impeaching Gus Yahya as General Chair is not in accordance with organizational rules as stipulated in the AD/ART.
“The Forum recommends that the Plenary Meeting to appoint the PJ [General Chair] not be held before all procedures and deliberations are completed in accordance with organizational regulations,” he said.
According to Gus Muid, the Elders Forum invites all parties to exercise restraint, maintain organizational order, and avoid steps that have the potential to increase tensions.
“The Forum emphasizes that this issue should be resolved through NU’s internal mechanisms, without involving external institutions or processes, in order to maintain the authority of Jam’iyyah and maintain NU as a great national asset,” he said.
A number of figures who attended the forum were Shohibul Bait & Shohibul Hajat KH Umar Wahid and KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz.
Then NU Elders & Mustasyar, KH Ma’ruf Amin attended via zoom, KH Said Aqil Siradj, KH Anwar Manshur, KH Nurul Huda Djazuli, KH Abdullah Ubab Maimoen (via Zoom), Hj.Shinta Nuriyah Abdurrahman Wahid (via Zoom), Hj Mahfudloh Wahab.
Meanwhile, the PBNU Syuriyah & Tanfidziyah ranks who attended were H Mohammad Nuh, H Nur Hidayat, KH Ali Akbar Marbun, KH Said Asrori, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, KH Mu’adz Thohir, H Amin Said Husni, H Sumantri.
Next, the three spokespersons for the forum are HM Abdul Mu’id Lirboyo, H Abdurrahman Kautsar Ploso and KH Imron Mutamakkin Pasuruan.
The internal conflict at PBNU started with the circulation of documents from the minutes of PBNU’s daily Syuriyah meeting, 20 November 2025.The forum asked Yahya Cholil Staquf to resign or be removed from the position of General Chair of PBNU, within three days.The document itself was signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar.
Some of the reasons for the impeachment included the fact that Yahya was considered to have links to the international Zionist network, and was deemed to have violated PBNU’s financial governance.
A few days later, Wednesday (26/11), a PBNU circular was issued bearing the electronic signatures of Deputy Rais Aam Afifuddin Muhajir and Katib Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir, Number: 4785/PB.02/A.II.10.01/99/11/202, which stated that Yahya no longer had the status of general chairman.
Responding to the results of the Syuriyah board meeting and the letter, Gus Yahya fought back and admitted that he would not resign.He also stated that the letter was invalid.He emphasized that he still had the status of Chairman of PBNU.
In line with this, Gus Yahya removed the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf alias Gus Ipul from his position as PBNU Secretary General (Sekjen), and also removed Gudfan Arif from the position of PBNU General Treasurer.
Gus Ipul’s removal was based on the decision of the Tanfidziyah Daily Meeting which was held Friday (28/11) at the PBNU office, Kramat Raya, Jakarta.The meeting was chaired directly by Gus Yahya as General Chair of PBNU.
Next, Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar finally appeared in public and stated that Gus Yahya would no longer serve as General Chair of PBNU as of November 26 2025 at 00.45 WIB.
“As of 26 November 2025 at 00.45 WIB, KH Yahya Cholil Staquf will no longer have the status of General Chair of PBNU. Since then, the leadership of PBNU has been completely in the hands of Rais Aam,” he said, 29 November.
A number of senior Nahdlatul Ulama kiai then formed the Nahdlatul Ulama Elders Deliberation Forum to discuss the ongoing conflict within the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU).They asked all parties to agree.
The forum was initiated by KH Anwar Manshur (Lirboyo) and KH Nurul Huda Djazuli (Ploso).There were at least 10 kiai who were present in person or online at the Al Falah Ploso Islamic Boarding School, Kediri, East Java, last Monday (30/11).
