Financial Services Authority (
FSA
) will reduce the waiting period for claims
insurance
for critical, chronic and special illnesses, a maximum of six months after the policy is active.
These provisions will be stated in the OJK Regulation (POJK) concerning Strengthening the Health Insurance Ecosystem which will replace the provisions in OJK Circular Letter (SEOJK) Number 7 of 2025.
OJK Chief Executive of Insurance, Guarantee and Pension Fund Supervision Ogi Prastomiyono said this new regulation is just waiting for the signature of the minister of law to be released immediately and will take effect from January 1 2026.

“For benefits for critical, chronic and/or special illnesses which are clearly stated in the policy, the waiting period is 6 months. So, it takes 6 months before you can submit a claim for critical, chronic and special illnesses,” said Ogi in a Working Meeting with Commission XI DPR RI, Thursday (4/12).
The waiting period is shorter than the current regulations where the maximum waiting period is 12 months from when the policy is active.
“We are advancing that this needs to be faster because the average product is 12 months. So, if it is 12 months, the waiting period is that he only pays the premium but cannot provide benefits. So after further discussion, we set 6 months as the waiting period for claims involving critical or chronic illnesses,” he explained.
However, Ogi said this policy is only valid for the first coverage period. If an extension is made, you can immediately claim automatically.
“This means that if the waiting period is extended, there will no longer be a need for a waiting period. So it can immediately become effective for the insurance product in question,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the maximum waiting period for common illnesses is 30 days. However, the waiting period can be shorter, depending on the agreement agreed between the policy holder and the company.
Not only that, OJK will also regulate that companies can only make price changes (
repricing
) premium only once a year.Changes should be based on claims history, increased risk, and inflation rate.
“Is the insurance company allowed to do it?
repricing,
changes in premium prices at any time?We have determined that this cannot be done. So, if the contract has been running for at least a year, it must remain in effect and
repricing
“It only takes effect when the contract is renewed or ends,” concluded Ogi.
