“Operation Zebra is the initial stage to prepare orderly conditions on the roads, as well as educating the public to be disciplined in traffic ahead of the long Christmas holiday,” he said in a written statement, Wednesday (12/11).
Furthermore, Agus said that the zebra operation was also part of an early prevention strategy against potential violations that could disrupt the smooth flow of Nataru.
“With Operation Zebra, we want the public to be better prepared to face the heavy traffic during long holidays. The police are not just giving tickets, but educating and reminding them that safety is a priority,” he said.
On the other hand, he confirmed that his party had also prepared security and service scenarios during the 2026 Christmas holiday. Agus said that a candle operation would also be held involving other relevant stakeholders.
He explained that the focus of security during the Nataru holiday was the trans-Java and trans-Sumatra toll roads, arterial and tourist routes, as well as transportation nodes such as terminals, ports, airports and large stations.
Furthermore, Agus said that traffic engineering on toll roads would be implemented situationally according to vehicle volume.Several engineering schemes have been prepared, including one way, contra flow, and rest area management to avoid congestion on the Jakarta-Semarang-Surabaya toll road.
“Vehicle flow is monitored in real time via ETLE mobile and the Traffic Corps Command Center. If a surge occurs, we immediately activate the one-way system and adjust the flow at vulnerable points,” he said.
Meanwhile, for arterial routes and tourist areas, flow engineering is adjusted to regional characteristics, such as opening and closing roads, route diversions, and odd-even in busy areas such as Puncak, Lembang, Bali, Yogyakarta, Malang, and other tourist areas.
“We remind the public to celebrate the New Year in an orderly and safe manner. There is no place for illegal racing, noisy exhausts or excessive firecracker parties,” he concluded.
