After Pakubuwono XIII passed away, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Harya (KGPH) Purbaya or KGPAA Hamangkunegoro was mandated as the successor to the throne.
Pakubuwono XIII Hangabehi’s daughter, GKR Timoer Rumbai Kusuma Dewayani reminded that her father had previously appointed KGPAA Hamangkunegoro as crown prince.

“I must emphasize, Sinuhun (Pakubuwono XIII) has appointed and inaugurated the crown prince,” said Timoer after accompanying Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono
Timoer said the king’s immediate family would carry out the mandate of the late Pakubuwono XIII.KGPAA Hamangkunegoro agreed to be appointed king of the Surakarta palace.
“We have to appoint (inaugurate) the crown prince (as king), which is Kanjeng Gusti Adipati Arya (KGPAA) Hamangkunegoro,” he said.
He emphasized that parties outside the nuclear family have no authority regarding the succession of palace leadership.
According to him, the rejection of KGPAA Hamangkunegoro as King of the Surakarta Palace was the same as violating existing customs.
However, he has not explained when the KGPAA Hamangkunegoro will be inaugurated.

Since 2022, Pakubuwono XIII has crowned KGPAA Hamangkunegoro as crown prince.
He was the son of PB XIII and the empress GKR Pakubuwono (or KRAy Pradapaningsih).He was only 21 years old when he was crowned crown prince.
His birth name was recorded as Gusti Raden Mas Suryo Aryo Mustiko, then when he was appointed his title changed to KGPH Purbaya or KGPAA Hamangkunegoro.
