Prasetyo explained that this was part of respecting the nation’s previous leaders.He emphasized that Suharto had extraordinary services to the nation and state during his leadership.
“That’s part of how we respect our predecessors. Especially our leaders, who of course have extraordinary services to the nation and state,” he told reporters on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Sunday (9/11).

He said that before being officially awarded the title of national hero, President Prabowo Subianto had also received input from various parties including the leadership of the MPR and DPR.
“He assigned several people to communicate with figures, get input from various parties so that it is hoped that what will be decided by the President, by the Government, will have gone through various input,” he said.
Prasetyo said the announcement of the awarding of the title of national hero to Suharto would be made directly by the President on Monday (10/11), to coincide with Heroes’ Day.
Apart from Suharto, he said, there are nine other figures who will also receive the title of national hero this year.
“Tomorrow, God willing, it will be announced. Approximately 10 names. [Soeharto] Yes, come in, come in,” he said.
