because it had sparked protests and was considered to have offended the Toraja indigenous community.
In the last few days, Pandji admitted that he had received many protests and anger from the Torajan people regarding jokes in the 2013 Mesakke Bangsaku performance.
He then had a dialogue with the Secretary General of the Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (AMAN) Rukka Sombolinggi and gained enlightenment about the beauty of Toraja culture – about its meaning, value and depth.

“From that chat, I realized that the joke I made was indeed ignorant, and for that I want to apologize profusely to the Torajan people who were offended and felt hurt,” said Pandji in a statement he published on Instagram, Tuesday (4/11).
Pandji said that currently there are two legal processes underway: the state legal process, due to a report to the police, and the customary legal process.Based on discussions with Rukka, traditional settlements can only be carried out in Toraja.
According to Pandji Rukka, he is willing to facilitate a meeting between himself and representatives from 32 Toraja traditional areas. He also plans to take that step. However, if time is not possible, Pandji stated that he would respect and undergo the applicable state legal process.
“I will learn from this incident and use it as a moment to become a better comedian – more sensitive, more careful and more caring,” he said.
The Toraja Youth Alliance has reported Panji Pragiwaksono to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit for allegedly insulting Toraja tribal customs.
“We Torajan youth officially reported this alleged criminal act to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police Headquarters,” said Prilki Prakasa Randan in a release, Monday (3/11).
Prilki stated that the comedy material delivered by Panji in videos spread on social media contained elements of cultural racism and discrimination based on ethnicity and culture.
“Pandji Pragiwaksono made the traditional rituals of the Rambu Solo Toraja people into ridicule in his comedy and invited the audience (participants) to laugh at the Rambu Solo rituals of the Toraja tribe,” he said.

Panji Pragiwaksono, said Prilki, said that in Toraja, if a family member dies, they wear a very expensive party, so that many Toraja people fall into poverty because of the funeral, until the body is left just like that.
“This statement is not only wrong and misleading, but also hurts the self-esteem and honor of Toraja customs which have been passed down from generation to generation as part of Indonesian civilization. The Rambu Solo’ custom is a sacred traditional ritual in the belief system, social values and spiritual expression that has been passed down from our ancestors from generation to generation,” he explained.
Prilki considers Panji Pragiwaksono’s statement to be a form of insult and harassment to the Toraja tribe’s customs and culture, so it has the potential to be criminal in accordance with article 156, article 157 of the Criminal Code.
Likewise in Law no.11 of 2008 concerning ITE article 28 paragraph (2) in conjunction with article 45A paragraph (2), as amended by Law no.19 of 2016.
