apologized for his joke about Toraja culture which sparked protests and police reports from the Toraja community.He realized that this was “ignorant” or ignorant.
In a statement on Instagram on Tuesday (4/11), Pandji said he was aware of the various protests that had come regarding the joke and had spoken with Rukka Sombolinggi, Secretary General of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN).

“In our conversation over the telephone, Mrs. Rukka told us very beautifully about Toraja culture regarding its meaning, value and depth,” said Pandji.
“From that conversation, I realized that

, and for that I would like to apologize profusely to the Torajan people who were offended and feel hurt.”
“Currently there are two legal processes ongoing: the state legal process, due to a report to the police, and the customary legal process. Based on discussions with Mrs. Rukka, customary settlement can only be carried out in Toraja,” said Pandji.
Pandji said Rukka was willing to mediate between himself and representatives of 32 Toraja traditional regions.However, if it was difficult for the meeting to take place, he said he would respect it and would undergo the applicable state legal process which is currently targeting him.
“I will learn from this incident and use it as a moment to become a better, more sensitive, more careful and more caring comedian,” said Pandji.”I also hope that this incident does not stop comics from highlighting values and culture in their work.”
However, Pandji believes that comedians should not be prohibited from discussing ethnicity, religion and race in Indonesia.This is because Indonesia is a country with very high diversity in various aspects, especially SARA.
“The important thing is not to stop talking about SARA, but how to talk about it without demeaning or badmouthing it,” said Pandji.
Pandji Pragiwaksono was previously reported by the Toraja Youth Alliance to the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit for allegedly insulting Toraja tribal customs.
According to Prilki Prakasa Randan as a representative of the organization, Pandji’s comedy material circulating on social media contains cultural racism and discrimination based on ethnicity.

“Pandji Pragiwaksono made fun of the Toraja people’s traditional Rambu Solo rituals in his comedy and invited the audience (participants) to laugh at the Toraja Rambu Solo rituals,” said Prilki.
Prilki explained that Pandji mentioned that many Torajan people fell into poverty because they held expensive funeral parties when their family members died, so that in the end the bodies were left alone.
“This statement is not only wrong and misleading, but also hurts the self-esteem and honor of Toraja customs which have been passed down from generation to generation as part of Indonesian civilization. The Rambu Solo’ custom is a sacred traditional ritual in the belief system, social values and spiritual expression that has been passed down from our ancestors from generation to generation,” he explained.
