was sentenced to customary sanctions by the Tongkonan Adat Sang Torayan (TAST), a traditional institution in
Tana Toraja
, South Sulawesi.
The sanctions were imposed as a result of Pandji’s jokes which were deemed to offend the customs and cultural values of the Toraja people.

Pandji was obliged to hand over 48 buffaloes and 48 pigs each.
“This offering is a symbol of restoring balance between the human world (

Apart from sanctions for sacrificial animals, Pandji was also subject to moral sanctions (

According to Benyamin, the funds will be used for traditional activities, cultural education, as well as the restoration of Toraja traditional symbols which are considered to be contaminated due to the comic’s statements.
“The money is not a fine, but a form of moral responsibility to restore the honor of Toraja customs,” he stressed.
Benyamin added that TAST was still opening up space for dialogue with Pandji.He hopes that the comic will show good faith by coming directly to discuss the sanctions imposed.
Meanwhile, if Pandji does not have good intentions to communicate to discuss customary sanctions, then there will be heavier sanctions for Pandji.Later, customary sanctions will be given in the form of curses through traditional figures.
Traditional institutions assess that Pandji’s jokes have hurt the sacred values in Toraja rituals which have been preserved for generations.TAST emphasized that the move to impose sanctions was not merely a form of anger, but rather a traditional mechanism to maintain balance and honor of the Torajan people.
