PBSI provides an explanation regarding replacement
Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin
with
Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani
in the 2025 SEA Games.
Sabar/Reza have been appointed to appear at the 2025 SEA Games to replace Raymond/Joaquin who have just won the 2025 Australian Open.
PBSI’s Head of Public Relations, Yuni Kartika, confirmed that the process of changing Raymond/Joaquin to Sabar/Reza was carried out some time ago when there was a request from the Ministry of Youth and Sports review team before the 2025 Australian Open took place.

“It’s true that some time ago [the player replacement process for the 2025 SEA Games],” said Yuni when asked by hitclubapk3Indonesia.com about the timing of the appointment of Sabar/Reza to replace Raymond/Joaquin.
Thus, the success of Raymond/Joaquin does not affect the decision that has been made for the SEA Games because the names Sabar/Reza have been registered along with the other men’s doubles, namely Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.
In early November 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, through the Deputy for Sports Achievement Improvement, proposed changes to the Indonesian badminton squad for the sake of performance at this year’s SEA Games.
Because they saw that Malaysia and Thailand had fielded the best squads, the Ministry of Youth and Sports proposed a change in players to PBSI which was welcomed by the change in the line-up.
Meanwhile, the PBSI National Training Center men’s doubles coach, Chafidz Yusuf, who managed Raymond/Joaquin, explained that his team would not strengthen the Indonesian team at the 2025 SEA Games because there were player changes.
“The information was that there was a change of player to Sabar/Reza. Apart from that, it was a positive thing [not appearing at the SEA Games],” said Chafidz when contacted on November 24.
