Tatang explained that the SM company security guard acted as an intellectual actor who invited and initiated the theft.
“The intellectual actor was a security guard. He was the one who invited and initiated the theft, including inviting the forklift operator to get involved,” he said.
Ironically, the security guard who was also involved in the theft, SH, actually reported the incident.”Initially the perpetrator reported the theft. However, after we carried out an investigation, it turned out that the person concerned was also involved,” said Tatang.
The four suspects are now being detained at the Cikande Police and undergoing further investigation, including investigating whether other parties were involved.
Tatang emphasized that the article currently being used is Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft by aggravation.”In the future, we do not rule out the possibility of development. We will consult with experts,” he said
After this incident, Deputy for Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment (KLH), Inspector General of Police, Rizal Irawan, emphasized that strict supervision was carried out after all evidence of theft in PT PMT’s temporary storage warehouse had been returned and was in intact condition.
In total, around 200 kilograms of material containing cesium-137 which was previously stolen, is now being secured again in a temporary storage warehouse.
“The items stolen consisted of various types with a total of around 200 kilograms. All of them have been returned to PT PMT’s interim storage. Thank God, these items have not had time to circulate outside the area,” said Rizal in Serang Regency, Banten, Thursday.
He said the evidence would remain stored in a temporary warehouse until the central government determines a permanent storage location that meets nuclear safety standards.
Determining this location involves the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) as institutions with authority to regulate radio nuclides.
“Eventually there will be
permanent storage
.”This matter is being discussed with Bapeten and BRIN,” he explained.
According to him, permanent storage locations must meet strict criteria, ranging from seismic factors, flood vulnerability, to long-term radiation safety technical standards.
Currently all decontamination waste, including iron, scrap and contaminated soil, is still being placed temporarily at PT PMT.
“It’s all there. So, all the contaminated material, including the slags, are nearby,” he added.
Rizal added that the Ministry of Environment continues to coordinate with Bareskrim investigators regarding the process of investigating environmental crimes and monitoring storage locations.
“This location is indeed a location being investigated by Bareskrim, but we are using it as a temporary storage area,” he said.
He reiterated that all evidence was safe and the legal process against the perpetrators was ongoing.
The Ministry of Environment asks the public to wait for the results of the police investigation while ensuring that the new security system has been implemented strictly.
“Thank God, the process of handling the perpetrators is ongoing,” said Rizal.
