Chairman of the East Java PDI Perjuangan Regional Leadership Council (DPD), Said Abdullah, said that his party upholds the independence of the KPK.
“As mandated by Mrs. Megawati Soekarnoputri, General Chair of the PDI Perjuangan, we always uphold an attitude of integrity. In this way we will not influence, let alone intervene in, the legal process,” said Said, quoted from Antara, Saturday (8/11).

However, Said invited all parties to prioritize the principle of presumption of innocence until Sugiri is declared guilty through a legal decision that has permanent force by the court.
All ranks of the East Java PDI Perjuangan DPD, said Said, believe that acts of corruption are a form of betrayal of the people’s trust because they have hurt the trust placed in them by the people.Therefore, Said supports the efforts of various parties, especially the Corruption Eradication Commission, in eradicating corruption.
Said also expressed his apologies to all residents of Ponorogo Regency for the incident involving Sugiri’s arrest.He emphasized that this incident would be a reflection of evaluation for the PDI Perjuangan DPD to continue to improve and make improvements regarding cadre development.
“We apologize because the person concerned has not been fully trustworthy in leading, has hurt the people’s trust, and has not fully carried out his responsibility to bring the people of Ponorogo to prosperity,” he said.
Said further said that his party would also improve the system for selecting regional heads and deputy regional heads so that it would not be expensive, which could potentially make the elected candidates commit criminal acts of corruption.
Previously, the KPK revealed that Sugiri and six other people were being intensively questioned after being taken from Ponorogo to the KPK’s Red and White Building, Jakarta, post-OTT.
“Seven people have arrived at the KPK’s Red and White Building. Furthermore, the parties arrested in the sting activity will undergo intensive follow-up examination,” said KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo on Saturday morning.
Budi said the seven people were taken from Ponorogo to Jakarta in two groups.The first group consisted of Sugiri Sancoko, Regional Secretary of Ponorogo Regency Agus Pramono, Main Director of the Regional General Hospital, Dr.Harjono Ponorogo Yunus Mahatma, Head of the Transfer Division of the Ponorogo Regional Secretariat, as well as two private parties.Meanwhile, the second group includes trusted people of the Regent of Ponorogo with the initials KPU.
