XIV arrived in Beirut, Lebanon, on Sunday (30/11) as the second stop on his first foreign visit since taking office as Pope last May.He arrived in Lebanon after leaving Turkey.
Pope Leo was welcomed in a state ceremony at Rafik Hariri International Airport by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros al-Rahi.
Crowds gathered along the road from the airport to the presidential palace in Baabda, east of Beirut, to greet the Pope.

Lebanon’s Information Minister, Paul Morcos, via social media X (formerly Twitter) wrote that Lebanon “warmly welcomed” the Pope at a very critical time for the country, adding that more than 1,000 journalists covered the visit.
“This (Pope Leo’s) visit brings great hope to the people (of Lebanon) who are struggling against the crisis,” he added.
Pope Leo himself departed Turkey on Sunday morning and was released in Istanbul by senior Turkish officials.
Israel itself continues to carry out aggression against Lebanon either ahead of or in the midst of the arrival of the leader of the world’s Catholic community.
Pope Leo’s Busy Schedule for 3 Days in Lebanon
Pope Leo XIV’s three-day visit to Lebanon included a packed schedule focused on unity and moral support:
– Sunday: The Pope meets with the President, Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister.This was followed by meeting sessions with civil society groups and diplomats, before moving to the apostolic nunciature in Harissa, north of Beirut.
– Monday: The Pope will visit the town of Annaya, location of the Mar Charbel monastery, to pray at the Shrine of Saint Charbel.He will also meet with bishops, priests and pastoral workers at the Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, followed by a private meeting with Catholic patriarchs at the nunciature.The pope will also attend an inter-religious and ecumenical meeting in Martyrs’ Square in central Beirut, before ending the day with a meeting with young people at the Maronite patriarchal compound in Bkerke.
– Tuesday: The Pope is scheduled to visit medical staff and patients at the Sisters of the Cross Hospital in Jal el-Dib and will hold a silent prayer at the site of the Beirut port explosion.The visit will end with a Mass on Beirut’s waterfront and an official farewell ceremony at the airport.
