sparked a stir after showing a two-striped pregnancy test pack when inserted into fruit

However, experts confirmed that this claim was purely a hoax.
Clinical nutrition specialist Ardian Sandhi Pramesti emphasized that there is no scientific evidence that a test pack can react positively just because it is touched to fruit, including watermelon.
“The pregnancy test pack works by detecting the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in urine, which the body only produces during pregnancy or in rare medical conditions such as certain tumors,” he said.
Meanwhile, watermelon is just a fruit rich in water, vitamin A, vitamin C and lycopene.It does not contain the hCG hormone or similar substances that can trigger false positive results.
In line with Ardian, clinical nutrition specialist Raissa Edwina Djuanda also emphasized that the video was a hoax.
“Of course not, because watermelon does not contain the hCG hormone,” said Raissa.
Scientifically, false positive results on a testpack are much more likely to be caused by other factors, such as:
• consumption of fertility drugs containing hCG,
• expired or contaminated testpack,
• errors in how to use,
• or certain medical conditions such as ectopic pregnancy.
Thus, experts confirm that it is impossible for a watermelon testpack to show positive results.The video circulating is most likely a fabrication.
