“So PT KAI doesn’t need to worry, everyone doesn’t worry, the people, we serve our people. We fight for the people, technology and all means are a shared responsibility, and ultimately the responsibility of the President of the Republic of Indonesia. So I am now Whoosh’s responsibility,” said Prabowo added.
Prabowo admitted that he had studied the issue and was confident that the problem would be resolved. He also asked all parties not to politicize the polemic.
“Let’s not dance to other people’s drums, maybe there are parties from who knows where who want to always cause people’s anxiety, no, just stay calm,” he said.
Prabowo also said that all public transportation such as Whoosh should not be calculated whether it is a loss or a profit.
However, he asked all parties to see whether the project was beneficial for the public or not.
“Don’t count all public transport throughout the world, profit or loss, count the benefits or not for the people, it’s like that all over the world, this is called public service obligations,” he said.
Whoosh was built with a total investment value of US$7.2 billion or equivalent to IDR 116.54 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of IDR 16,186 per US dollar). This figure includes a cost overrun of US$1.21 billion from the initial investment value set at US$6.05 billion.
Of the total investment cost of US$7.2 billion, 75 percent of it came from China Development Bank (CDB) loans.
Meanwhile, 25 percent comes from shareholder capital contributions, namely a combination of several BUMNs from PT Pilar Sinergi BUMN Indonesia (PSBI) at 60 percent and Beijing Yawan HSR Co Ltd at 40 percent.
