confirms the government’s commitment to curbing practices
illegal logging of forest areas
which still occurs in a number of regions in Indonesia.
Prabowo conveyed this in response to issues related to alleged illegal logging which was one of the causes of flooding in Sumatra.
He emphasized that the government is controlling companies that do not have legal permits.

The government will take firm action against perpetrators of illegal logging.In order to strengthen supervision and enforcement in the field, the government is coordinating between agencies.
Previously, the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, said he had taken an inventory of legal subjects that were indicated to have contributed to the flood disaster in Sumatra, identifying 12 legal subjects.
“The Temporary Forestry Law has found indications of violations in 12 legal subject locations, 12 companies in North Sumatra and law enforcement against the 12 legal subjects will be carried out soon,” said Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni in a working meeting with Commission IV DPR RI in Jakarta on Thursday (4/12).
“There are already 12 legal subjects, PT, which are indicated to have problems, especially in the Batang Toru area. God willing, we will take firm action,” he said.
He said that the inventory of legal subjects regarding flood and landslide disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra is still ongoing today, carried out by the Law Enforcement Directorate (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Forestry.
Apart from that, Raja Juli explained that in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, they plan to revoke around 20 Forest Utilization Business Permits for an area of around 750,000 hectares.
This step was taken after the Ministry of Forestry previously revoked 18 PBPH covering an area of 526,144 hectares.
The Minister of Forestry also said that he had formed a team with the National Police to trace the origin of the logs that were swept away by the flood at a number of flood-affected locations in Sumatra.The plan is that the investigation will also involve the Forest Area Control Task Force.
