“Just now, Mr. President has signed a letter of rehabilitation to Mr. Rasnal and Mr. Abdul Muis, a high school teacher from North Luwu,” said Dasco, quoting his statement.
By issuing the rehabilitation letter, the government is restoring the good name, dignity and rights of the two teachers who have been affected by legal problems.
“By providing rehabilitation, the good names, dignity and rights of these two teachers will be restored. May it be a blessing,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said that Prabowo’s decision was the result of intensive coordination between various parties over the past week, following official requests received from both the public and legislative institutions.
Pras said Prabowo’s decision was a concrete form of appreciation for the dedication of teachers. He said that in every problem or dynamic that occurs, the government always prioritizes efforts to find the best and fair solution for all parties.
“Hopefully this decision can provide a sense of justice for the two teachers we respect, and also for the community and educational environment,” he said.
Abdul Muis and Rasnal, who were also present at Halim, expressed their thanks and gratitude for Prabowo’s attention to the fate of teachers in the regions.
“For the past five years we have felt discrimination, both from law enforcement officials and from our superior bureaucracy who never seemed to care about the cases we were facing,” said Abdul Muis.
Meanwhile, Rasnal admitted that the journey he took in seeking justice was not easy.Rasnal also hopes that similar incidents will not happen again to educators in Indonesia.
“Hopefully in the future there will be no more criminalization of teachers who are struggling in the field. Currently, fellow teachers are always haunted by the fact that if they make the slightest mistake, there will always be inappropriate punishments,” he said.
Abdul Muis and Rasnal were fired after being found guilty by a panel of Supreme Court judges regarding collecting IDR 20 thousand from students’ parents to help 10 honorary teachers who did not receive salaries.
Head of the South Sulawesi Provincial Government Education Service, Iqbal Nadjamuddin, denied this.He claimed that both of them were dismissed because of the follow-up to a criminal corruption case which had permanent legal force (inkrah). However, Iqbal also did not explain in detail the corruption case alleged against the two high school teachers.
Iqbal admitted that the legal basis for the dismissal of the two teachers was also in accordance with Law no.20 of 2023 concerning ASN article 52 paragraph (3) letter i and PP Number 11 of 2017, article 250 letter b.
Separately, the Chairman of the North Luwu Indonesian Teachers Association, Ismaruddin, said that Rasnal was fired through a decree from the Governor of South Sulawesi as of 21 August 2025. Meanwhile, Abdul Muis was dismissed as of 4 October 2035.
The letter of recommendation for dismissal was based on a follow-up to the Supreme Court’s cassation decision which found Rasnal and Muis guilty. But, said Ismaruddin, the Supreme Court in its decision did not order the dismissal of the two teachers.
PGRI believes that there was something wrong in the process of dismissing the two teachers.According to Ismaruddin, the government should have provided guidance to the two teachers before they were dismissed.
