Governor of DKI Jakarta
Pramono Anung
disbursed a budget of IDR 232 billion for normalization
Ciliwung River
in order to reduce traffic jams and flooding in Jakarta.
“For Jakarta’s responsibility, there are two sub-districts, namely Cililitan with an estimated Rp. 111 billion and Pengadegan with an estimated Rp. 121 billion, so these are the two sub-districts that we will work on to normalize Ciliwung,” said Pramono to journalists at the opening of the 80th Day of Service for the Ministry of Public Works (PU) at the Ciliwung River, Jakarta, Friday (21/11).

Pramono detailed that Cililitan has 37 plots of land, while Pengadegan has 54 plots that are being normalized.
Currently, the normalization of the Ciliwung River is in the land acquisition stage which is expected to be completed in early 2026.
Land acquisition was carried out by the DKI Provincial Government, while embankment construction was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works.
Furthermore, Pramono said that the arrangement of Ciliwung was also included in the development of the Dukuh Atas transit-oriented area or Transit Oriented Development (TOD).
“In early January, we will start carrying out construction for TOD in Dukuh Atas as well as the Ciliwung River, which we will optimize and utilize,” he said.
It is hoped that the new TOD area can be used by Jakarta residents for activities and relaxing on the Ciliwung River.
Apart from Ciliwung, the DKI Provincial Government will also immediately normalize or clean up the 1.3 kilometer long Krukut River.
The Ciliwung River has its headwaters in Bogor, West Java, and stretches for approximately 120 kilometers downstream on the north coast of Jakarta.
Floods that occur in Jakarta are often triggered by the narrowing of the river due to the presence of a number of buildings on its banks.
Since 2014, the government has normalized 33 kilometers of the Ciliwung River, and now 16 kilometers have been completed, while the remaining 17 kilometers are still in the process of construction and land acquisition.
The normalization of the Ciliwung River crosses a number of sub-districts in Jakarta, namely Manggarai, Bukit Duri, Kebon Manggis, Kampung Melayu, Kampung Pulo, Kebon Baru, Bidara Cina, Cikoko, Cawang, Pengadegan, Rawajati, Cililitan, Gedong, Tanjung Barat, Balekambang, East Pejaten, Jagakarsa and Pasar Minggu.
Normalization is part of the master plan for the flood control system in Jakarta, from upstream to downstream, to restore the width of the Ciliwung River to normal, namely 35-50 meters.
