Meanwhile, Nadiem was absent from the trial because he was still on duty after undergoing surgery for his illness. It is not yet known what illness Nadiem is experiencing.
According to the prosecutor, the two people Nadiem removed were Khamim and Poppy Dewi Puspita. On June 2 2020, Khamim, who at that time served as Director of Elementary Schools (SD) at the Directorate General of PAUDasmen, was replaced by Sri Wahyuningsih.Meanwhile, Poppy, who served as Middle School Director, was replaced by Mulyatsyah.
Now, Sri and Mulyatsyah are co-defendants in the case along with Nadiem Makarim and their consultant Ibrahim Arief.
“One of the reasons the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim replaced echelon 2 officials, including Poppy Dewi Puspitawati, was because they had different opinions regarding the results of the technical study which were not in accordance with the directions of the defendant. Nadiem Anwar Makarim did not agree if the procurement referred to one particular product,” said prosecutor Roy Riady.
A week later, on June 8, Nadiem formed a Technical Team to Review the Study Results of the Technical Team to Analyze the Need for Information and Communication Technology Learning Tools in Elementary and Middle Schools.Mulyatsyah and Sri Wahyuningsih also became chairman and deputy chairman respectively.
The two then released the results of a study which stated that Chromebooks with the Chrome operating system were superior as learning aids for elementary and middle school students.
“That Mulyatsyah and Sri Wahyuningsih ordered the technical team to review the results of the Technical Team’s study, which in essence for the recommended technical specifications in procuring ICT equipment for the 2020 Fiscal Year was in accordance with the direction of the defendant Nadiem Anwar Makarim, namely to use Chromebooks with the superior Chrome Operating System,” said the prosecutor.
Prosecutors on that occasion accused three of Nadiem’s subordinates of causing losses to the state of up to IDR 2.1 trillion. This amount is an accumulation of 25 parties who received personal benefits and value from the Chromebook procurement project.
