Indonesian National Team
will work together with the Indonesian U-23 coach.
“So from the results we discussed with the General Chair and Deputy Chairs One and Two as well as the Exco, the U-23 coach will be in one package with the Indonesian National Team coach,” said Sumardji, Tuesday (16/12).
This is a follow-up to PSSI’s decision to end cooperation with Indra Sjafri as coach of Indonesia U-23 for the SEA Games.Because of this, PSSI is looking for a new figure.

Sumardji could not explain more specifically about the Indonesian U-23 coach, because currently PSSI is focusing on senior team tacticians.There are two strong names who are candidates for Garuda squad coach.
These two names, continued Sumardji, are a combination of the four figures interviewed by PSSI.Later the two names in question will be discussed at the PSSI Executive Committee meeting.
“So we interviewed four people out of the five invited. From the information I received, the names narrowed down to two people. These two names will be brought to the Exco meeting,” he said.
PSSI Exco member, Endri Erawan, said that the announcement of the Indonesian National Team coach would be made at the end of this month or next month.Currently, his party is looking for the right time to hold an Exco meeting.
“After the Exco meeting with Pak Ketum [Erick Thohir], hopefully this month or at the latest next month [2026] the coach will be announced,” said Endri.
Endri revealed that the names of prospective trainers were not much different from those widely circulated in cyberspace.Figures such as Giovanni van Bronckhorst, John Heitinga, and John Herdman stood out.
“I don’t have the right to mention names to maintain privacy. There are many clubs that have approached them, so we have to understand their position,” he said.
“This was the coach’s own request to keep it a secret, but the name is not too far from what has been circulating,” said the former President of the Mitra Kukar Club.
