PT SRM Opens Voice about Workers from China Being Examined by Immigration

The company is in Tumbang Titi District, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan.
The examination was carried out after 15 Chinese citizens were taken to the Class II Non-TPI Ketapang Immigration Office to investigate their immigration status amid cases of alleged attacks on mining security officers and TNI soldiers.
PT SRM President Director Li Changjin stated that the allegations of attacks on TNI members did not have strong evidence.He said that the workers were actually the victims in the incident.

“In fact, these Chinese workers were the victims of abuse. They were beaten and trampled in trucks, and suffered bruises on their backs, chests and thighs,” said Li in an official statement, Friday (19/12).
Li said there were nine foreign workers who experienced abuse, and all of them were Limited Stay Permit Card (Kitas) holders issued by the Ketapang Immigration Office.
He also said that these workers had been carrying out technical activities at the SRM mine for years, before internal conflicts and illegal occupation of the mine site by certain parties occurred.
Li assessed that rumors about attacks on the TNI came from parties he said were Firman and Imran.He accused the two of spreading these accusations and occupying the mining area illegally.
“Firman and Imran illegally occupied the SRM mining site and land belonging to Pamar Lubis. They used the TNI to guard the SRM area,” he said.
Li also questioned the basis for deploying TNI soldiers to the mining area.According to him, claims that workers attacked and damaged vehicles did not match the evidence.
“There is no significant evidence in the video circulating showing SRM technical workers damaging cars and attacking TNI members. However, they were the ones who were the victims of beatings when they were taken to immigration,” he said.
Li asked for an investigation to be carried out to determine who was responsible for the alleged beating.He also conveyed that there was an internal company dispute which is currently being processed by the police regarding alleged falsification of documents and struggle for company ownership.
Previously, Ketapang Immigration had confirmed the examination of the 15 foreigners from China.
Immigration stated that the immigration verification process was still ongoing to ensure whether there were any violations.The inspection was carried out in line with the police’s handling of incidents that occurred in the PT SRM mining area.
