Purbaya Prepares Bill to Change IDR 1,000 to IDR 1 in 2027

or what is better known as the policy of changing IDR 1,000 to IDR 1.
This plan is stated in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 70 of 2025 concerning the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Finance for 2025-2029.
“The Bill on Rupiah Price Changes (Redenomination) is a draft bill which is planned to be completed in 2027,” wrote PMK 70/2025.

Through the PMK, Purbaya explained the reasons for drafting the Redenomination Bill for economic efficiency.Apart from that, the government wants to maintain the continuity of national economic development, a stable value of the rupiah as a form of maintaining people’s purchasing power, and increasing the credibility of the rupiah.
The PMK regulates the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of the Ministry of Finance as the person responsible for redenomination.
Purbaya also revealed several bills that would be prepared by the Ministry of Finance.Some of these include the Appraisal Bill which is targeted this year and the Auction Bill and State Assets Management Bill which are targeted in 2026.
“In order to achieve the Ministry of Finance’s strategic goals and objectives, four bills are being proposed which fall within the scope of the Ministry of Finance’s duties as stipulated in the 2025-2029 medium-term national legislation program,” was quoted from the regulation.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto actually said there were no plans regarding this matter.He said there would still be further discussions before the plan was executed.
He admitted that he could not say much about the redenomination that Purbaya had planned.Airlangga emphasized that there is no mature plan to simplify the rupiah currency.
“Oh yes, we’ll see later, so far no, there are no plans,” said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday (7/11), as reported by detik.
