“We will sort it out. So, Customs and Excise, I have called them. We are having an internal meeting,” said Purbaya after the Working Meeting (Raker) with Commission XI DPR RI in Central Jakarta, Thursday (27/11).
“We discussed it with them, I said this, ‘The image of Customs and Excise is not good in the media, in society, in our highest leadership (President Prabowo Subianto)’. So, we have to improve it seriously,” he explained.

Purbaya did not specifically explain why the illegal rice was able to escape Customs monitoring at Sabang Port and Batam Port.He only asked for time to make improvements to the agency.
He claims to have asked President Prabowo Subianto for permission to reform the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, at least within the next year.
If this doesn’t work, Purbaya threatens to freeze Customs and lay off 16 thousand employees.
“Let me, give me time to improve Customs Excise. Because the threat is serious, if Customs and Excise cannot improve its performance and the public is still dissatisfied, Customs Excise can be frozen. Replaced with SGS, like in the past,” threatened the minister.
“I think next year (2026) will be safe. This means that Customs and Excise will be able to work well and professionally. If we fail to improve, 16 thousand Customs and Excise employees will be laid off,” continued Purbaya.
Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman discovered 250 tons of illegal rice entering Sabang, Aceh on Sunday (23/11).Another illegal rice was found in Batam on Monday (25/11) evening around 40.4 tonnes.
Amran reminded President Prabowo Subianto’s order not to import rice because domestic stocks were sufficient.The discovery of illegal rice was immediately sealed by the government.
