Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftahul Akhyar
stated his official position regarding the recommendations resulting from the Kubro Deliberation at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School, Sunday (21/12).
The recommendation contains a 3×24 hour ultimatum with the Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya camp, who was dismissed as Chairman of the PBNU Tanfidziyah on November 20 2025.
Miftahul admitted that he respected the forum because it was initiated by KH Anwar Manshur as one of the PBNU Mustasyar.However, Miftahul said Gus Yahya’s dismissal was a mechanism that was in accordance with the corridors of the organization’s constitution.

“We certainly respect this cultural forum, because it started from the initiative of KH Anwar Manshur as one of the PBNU Mustasyar. However, organizational decisions must proceed according to Jam’iyah rules and mechanisms,” said Miftahul in his statement, Tuesday (23/12).
“Everything must return to organizational mechanisms, because that is where the dignity of Jam’iyah Nahdlatul Ulama is maintained,” he added.
Miftahul explained that Gus Yahya’s dismissal as General Chair of Tanfidziyah was not carried out immediately, but had gone through a number of processes, including summoning the person concerned.
In fact, according to him, Syuriah has also performed tabayun twice with Gus Yahya, respectively on November 13 and 17.However, on that occasion, Gus Yahya actually returned earlier than the time provided by Rais Aam.
“In this second meeting, KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf asked to resign earlier than the time provided by Rais ‘Aam,” he said.
“Therefore, it needs to be emphasized that the decision of the PBNU Plenary Meeting on Tuesday, December 9 2025, is not a unilateral individual action, but an institutional process that moves through the stages and official forums of the organization, in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Association, Bylaws, and applicable Nahdlatul Ulama Association Regulations,” added Miftahul.
Miftahul added that his party originally wanted to attend the Lirboyo forum.However, he considered the legality of the forum.Miftahul admitted that he had also received two Lirboyo delegates who conveyed the results of the Kubro Deliberation on Monday 22 December.
The two of them, namely, KH Muhibbul Aman Aly and KH Athoillah Sholahuddin Anwar asked that there be no communication deadlock.
However, in response, Miftahul said that his party would hold an official forum to explain the situation and Syuriah’s position regarding Gus Yahya’s dismissal.
“Syuriyah PBNU will schedule an explanation directly to Mustasyar PBNU regarding the background, stages, procedures and substance of the decisions of the PBNU Plenary Meeting which will be held soon,” he said.
Previously, the Chief Executive Officer of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siroj emphasized that the results of the Kubro Deliberation held at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School must be followed up by all parties in order to maintain the integrity and authority of Jam’iyah Nahdlatul Ulama.
According to Said, all decisions made in the Kubro Deliberation at the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School were born through a long, open deliberation process and involved broad regional and branch representation.Therefore, the results must be seen as a morally and organizationally binding voice of truth.
“What came out from the gentlemen was all through deliberation. We discussed it for quite a long time, more than two hours, and we believed everything to be shautul haq, kalimul haq, mauqiful haq. So we have to follow up on it in order to defend the truth,” Said was quoted as saying.
