Plenary meeting held by the Syuriyah Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama

) appointed Deputy General Chair Zulfa Mustofa as Acting (Pj) General Chair of the organization .
This decision was taken because previously Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya had been removed from the leadership of Tanfidziyah PBNU.
In a plenary meeting chaired by Rais Syuriah PBNU Muhammad Nuh on Tuesday (9/12) evening, Zulfa was given a number of tasks for the remaining period of leading PBNU.

The first is preparing for national deliberations leading up to the PBNU Congress, then the commemoration of the Nahdlatul Ulama centenary.
“He [Zulfa Mustofa] will lead as acting general chairman, carrying out his duties until the congress,” said M Nuh in a press conference after the closed plenary meeting at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday evening.
Nuh said Zulfa was given the mandate to immediately prepare for the congress in order to restore the cycle of the PBNU leadership period.The reason, he said, was that the previous congress which was held in Lampung in 2021 had been postponed a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The current congress is not being accelerated, but is being returned to the original cycle,” he said.
Apart from that, he also reminded Zulfa’s task again, namely to prepare for the commemoration of the centenary of the existence of the Mashi version of Nahdlatul Ulama next year.
“There are several tasks, namely commemorating the first century of AD [Nahdlatul Ulama] which will fall in January 2026. And there is a National Conference, and the culmination will be the congress,” he said.
On the same occasion, Zulfa received the mandate, and was determined to carry it out even though it was difficult.
“I said before my colleagues [journalists] came in, that my task is very difficult. Firstly, normalizing the wheels of the organization and then of course delivering the congress which begins with the implementation of the konbes [large conference],” said Zulfa.
“I also said that I don’t want to be a conflict of the past. I want to be Jamiyah’s solution for the future,” he continued.
Therefore, he admitted that he would invite all kiai, NU residents, and NU administrators from the center to the branch level to come back together and unite.
“Because NU residents have been saddened by this uncertainty for a long time. I hope that with my appointment at this plenary as Acting General Chair this uncertainty will be resolved,” he said.
The plenary meeting held at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday evening was attended by hundreds of PBNU administrators from the ranks of Rais Aam, Katib, Mustasyar, A’wan, to Tanfidziyah.
Also present was the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul), who was originally removed by Gus Yahya from the position of Secretary General of PBNU.Apart from that, the Minister of Religion, Nasaruddin Umar, was also seen coming.
Nasaruddin was seen being greeted by Gus Ipul when he entered the arena.
Also present was the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who is also known as one of the Chairmen of the PBNU.

At the location, Gus Yahya was not seen on the plenary agenda tonight.
Initially, the plenary meeting was opened by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftakhul Akhyar.The next agenda for the plenary meeting was chaired by Rais Syuriah M Nuh.
The PBNU plenary meeting initiated by Rais Aam began with the circulation of the minutes of the PBNU Syuriyah daily meeting, November 20 2025. The forum asked Yahya Cholil Staquf to resign or be removed from the position of PBNU General Chair, within three days of the decision.
