is the highest achieving animated film this year.Not only that, this animated film from China was also as of Tuesday (2/12), the best-selling film this year with revenues of US$1.9 billion.
However, Ne Zha 2 cannot be nominated for the 2026 Oscars. Several other animated film titles are eligible for nomination, such as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie – Infinity Castle and KPop Demon Hunters.

The absence of the title Ne Zha 2 in the list of animated films that are eligible for Oscar nominations is quite surprising.The film actually meets the qualifications, namely a minimum of seven consecutive days of screening in American cinemas.

There is no longer any hope of seeing Ne Zha 2 on the Oscar nomination list because the application deadline for qualifying animated films has closed on November 13.
Ne Zha 2 is a sequel to Ne Zha, telling the story of Ne Zha and Aobing’s souls being saved after a disaster, but their bodies will be destroyed.Taiyi Zhenren planned to use the seven-colored lotus to reshape their bodies.
Produced on a reported budget of $80 million, Ne Zha 2 has an audience score of 98 percent and a Tomatometer score of 92 percent from 88 film critic reviews on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, fans of KPop Demon Hunters, Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, and others will have to wait until the nomination announcement on January 22, 2026 to find out their favorite films make the cut for animated film.
