A total of 1,156 people were reported to have been displaced due to the eruption
Mount Semeru
in Lumajang Regency, East Java, until Wednesday (19/11) evening WIB.Thousands of affected residents were forced to be evacuated to a number of evacuation points spread across Pronojiwo and Candipuro subdistricts.
Head of the East Java BPBD Emergency and Logistics Division, Satriyo Nurseno, confirmed the temporary data.
“The total number of refugees is 1,156 people, temporary data collected as of Wednesday evening,” said Satriyo, Thursday (20/11) early morning.

Refugees are spread across seven main locations.The evacuation point with the largest number is at the Ar-Rahmah Mosque, Oro-Oro Ombo Village, which accommodates around 500 people.Meanwhile, the Oro-Oro Ombo Village Hall accommodates around 200 residents, including 30 toddlers, 1 pregnant woman, and 2 refugees with chronic illnesses (strokes).
Other evacuation locations that also accommodate residents are SDN 04 Supiturang (around 100 people), SDN 02 Sumberurip (around 200 people), Candipuro District Office (101 people), and the house of the Sumbermujur Village Head (55 people).
Reports also stated that the Penanggal Village Hall had accommodated residents, but all of them were reported to have returned to their homes.
Apart from thousands of refugees, two people were reported to have suffered burns while passing through Gladak Perak.The victims are Haryono (48) and Normawati (43), residents of Maron Village, Kediri Regency.Both of them are currently undergoing intensive treatment at Haryoto Regional Hospital.
Currently, the East Java Province BPBD has dispatched the BPBD ONE unit along with logistical assistance to speed up emergency handling of the Semeru eruption.
Mount Semeru experienced an eruption on Thursday (19/11) afternoon, which lasted from 14.13 WIB to 18.11 WIB.This eruption produced hot clouds that flowed more than 13 km towards the South Southeast (Besuk Kobokan).
Even though flood vibration activity was no longer recorded at 19.56 WIB, Mount Semeru’s Activity Level is currently set at Level IV or Warning.
Following this status, the Mount Semeru climbing route to Ranu Kumbolo on the border of Lumajang and Malang, East Java, was declared completely closed.
