encourage dialogue and security agreements between Tel Aviv and Damascus.
Defense Minister Israel Katz insisted that Tel Aviv is not on a path to peace with Damascus and claimed that Yemen’s Houthi group is active in Syria.

“Israel is not moving towards peace with Syria because there are forces within its borders that are thinking about attacking the cities in the Golan,” Katz claimed during a closed session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Wednesday (26/11), as quoted
Anadolu Agency.
He also claimed that the Houthis were suspected of operating in Syria, and accused the group of planning a “land invasion” of northern Israel.
“Another issue of concern to Israeli officials is the Druze community in Syria,” he said in a statement quoted by public broadcaster KAN on Thursday (27/11).
The Israeli army is ready to “intervene once again, including by closing the border” if any incidents occur in southern Syria.
There was no comment from the Syrian authorities or the Houthi group regarding the Israeli minister’s statement.
The Syrian government has also repeatedly emphasized that it guarantees equal rights for all groups in the country.
They accused Israel of using the Druze as a pretext to interfere in Syria’s internal affairs.
In recent months, meetings between Israel and Syria were held to reach a security agreement.
The deal aims to ensure the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Syrian buffer zone it occupies by December 2024.
After the fall of the Bashar Al Assad regime at the end of 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone.
This step is considered to violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Israel and Syria.
Based on government data, the Israeli army carried out more than 1,000 airstrikes on Syria as well as more than 400 cross-border attacks on the southern provinces since December 2024.
