Reluctant to Resign from PBNU, Yahya Gathers Ulama Without Rais Aam Tonight

PBNU
).
This was conveyed by Yahya in response to the minutes of the PBNU Syariah daily meeting which asked him to resign from his position.
“I never thought of resigning (from the PBNU Chair). Because I received a mandate from the congress for five years, at the 34th congress,” said Yahya in Surabaya, quoting

The brother of the former Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Staquf emphasized that he would complete his position as Chairman of the PBNU in accordance with the mandate of the congress.
“I have a five-year mandate and I will serve it for five years. God willing, I can do it. So I have no thoughts of resigning at all,” he stressed.
Previously circulated in the minutes of PBNU’s daily Syuriah meeting, it was decided that Yahya Cholil Staquf had to resign as Chairman of PBNU within three days of receiving the minutes.If he does not resign within that deadline, Syariah will dismiss him.
The minutes were signed by Rais Aam PBNU Miftachul Akhyar, decided at a meeting attended by 37 Syariah Daily Administrators at the Aston City Hotel Jakarta on November 20 2025.

Deliberations between Rais Aam and two Deputy Rais Aam decided: KH Yahya Cholil Staquf must resign from the position of General Chair of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board within 3 (three) days from the receipt of the decision of the PBNU Syuriyah Daily Meeting
,” wrote the decision points in the minutes.

If he does not resign within 3 (three) days, the PBNU Syuriyah Daily Meeting decides to dismiss KH Yahya Cholil Staquf as General Chair of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board

Based on the minutes, the call for resignation was related to the invitation of speakers from the international Zionist network at the Nahdlatul Ulama National Leadership Academy (AKN NU) which was deemed to violate the values and teachings of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah An Nahdliyah and was contrary to the Muqaddimah Qanun Asasi Nahdlatul Ulama.
Apart from that, it is related to indications of violations in financial governance within PBNU.
Following the circulation of the minutes, PBNU gathered all regional administrators in Surabaya on Saturday (22/11) evening.This important coordination meeting was held at the Novotel Samator Hotel, Surabaya, East Java at the invitation of PBNU Deputy General Chair Amin Said Husni and PBNU Deputy Secretary General Faisal Saimima.
Today, Sunday (23/11), PBNU Chairman Yahya invited dozens of kiai and ulama scholars to attend the “Gathering of Ulama Scholars” at the PBNU Building, 8th floor on Jl Kramat Raya Number 164 Jakarta.The event is scheduled to start at 19.30 WIB.
In the invitation number 4773/PB.23/B.I.01.08/99/11/2025 there were 76 names on the invitation list.They consist of senior NU figures, charismatic ulama, and NU intellectuals.Rais Aam PBNU Miftachul Akhyar and Secretary General (Sekjen) PBNU Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) were not included in the list.
