Disaster management in Indonesia cannot be separated from the role of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).On social media, netizens expressed their longing for the figures of Sutopo, Doni Monardo and Ahmad Yurianto who often appear when there are disaster situations in Indonesia ranging from earthquakes, tsunamis to COVID-19.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho is the former Head of the Data and Public Relations Center of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).He was born in Boyolali, 7 October 1969 and is a graduate of Gadjah Mada University and IPB.
Sutopo became known to the public because of his speed and alertness in providing information on every natural disaster that occurred in Indonesia.
During his life, Sutopo received an award as Outstanding Spokeperson or special spokesperson from the Jakarta Foreign Correspondent Club which he received in December 2017 for his dedication in conveying disaster information in Indonesia
Sutopo was also named an Indonesian Anti-Hoax Exemplary Figure by the Indonesian Anti-Defamation Society (MAFINDO) and the 2018 IAGI Awards in the field of Natural Disaster Communication by the Association of Indonesian Geologists at the annual scientific meeting in October 2018.
However, on Sunday, July 7 2019, Sutopo breathed his last breath in Guangzhou, China, early morning local time while undergoing treatment for stage 4 lung cancer in the Bamboo Curtain country after being diagnosed with the disease in mid-January 2018. He was buried at the Sasonolayu Public Cemetery (TPU), Boyolali, on Monday July 8 2019.
Doni Monardo
Doni Monardo was born in Cimahi, West Java, on May 10 1963. He has a background as a TNI soldier who handled various disasters in Indonesia and his last position was Lieutenant General TNI with three stars.
Doni graduated from the Military Academy (Akmil) in 1985 and was placed in the elite Kopassus corps for the 1986-1988 period.He was also appointed as part of the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) during the term of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati.
Then, he was promoted as Commander of Group A Paspampres in 2008 and was trusted as Danrem 061 Surya Kencana Bogor in 2010. Not long after that, Doni was appointed deputy commander general of Kopassus until 2012.
During the leadership era of the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), he was given the mandate as Paspampres commander, until 2014 his rank was changed to major general and he was appointed commander general of Kopassus in 2014.
However, what was most highlighted was when Doni was appointed as Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) by the 7th President Joko Widodo in January 2019 and his term of office ended in 2021. He was also appointed as Head of the Covid-19 Task Force on March 13 2020 through Presidential Decree Number 7 of 2020.
Doni died on Sunday, December 3 2023 at 17.35 WIB at the age of 63 years after previously being treated intensively at the Siloam Semanggi Hospital (RS) Jakarta.
Achmad Yurianto
Achmad Yurianto became widely known to the public when he served as government spokesperson for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19 from March 2020 to July 2021.
Yurianto was born in Malang, March 11 1962 and started his career as a military doctor.He joined as the Main Health Officer for Military Region V Brawijaya in 1987. After that, he was also transferred several times to several regions in Indonesia.
He was appointed as Deputy Head of the Dustira Level II Hospital, Cimahi, West Java in 2008 and was appointed Deputy Head of Health for the Military Region IV Diponegoro Semarang and became Head of the TNI Health Center Operations Health Support Service in 2011.
Yurianto joined the Ministry of Health in 2014 and briefly held the position of Secretary of the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health.He also served as Director General of P2P Ministry of Health on March 9 2020.
Finally, he was trusted as Chair of the 2021-2026 BPJS Health Management Board and was appointed by President Jokowi on February 22 2021 at the State Palace.Yurianto died on Saturday, May 21 2022, at the age of 60, after undergoing treatment for colon cancer.
