“So the input from me is to learn exactly what the mandate of the UN is. What are the rules of engagement like,” said Dino after a press conference discussing the Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy (CIFP) event in South Jakarta, Tuesday (25/11).
“The most important thing is that we ensure that our troops are not in a situation where we are attracted or dragged into clashes or conflicts in the field, the potential of which is still very high,” he added.
Furthermore, Dino said that the potential for conflict still exists even though there has been a ceasefire and a resolution issued by the UN Security Council.
One of the points in the resolution contains the formation of a Peace Council (Board of Peace/BoP) as a transitional government in Gaza which will be led by US President Donald Trump.
Through this resolution, the BoP has the authority to form an International Stabilization Force which can be deployed under the agency’s command.Countries ready to send troops will also consult with Egypt and Israel.
“One big risk, and we should never think about that possibility, is if we clash with Hamas. Because that’s not what we want. And it won’t benefit the TNI (Indonesian National Army),” he said.
Indonesia certainly does not want to conflict with anyone as part of the peacekeeping force. However, to get there, a peace agreement is needed that is accepted by all parties.
He then gave an example in history where parties in conflict in certain areas clashed again even though there had been a ceasefire agreement.
“And there are still many developments that cannot be controlled. So, if that happens, what position will we take. That’s what we need to create scenarios from the start. Scenario mapping,” said Dino.
The former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs also said that Indonesia must be sensitive to various scenarios and emphasize its position.Apart from that, RI also has the advantage of being trusted by all factions in Palestine.
Indonesia has repeatedly emphasized that it is ready to send peacekeeping troops to the Gaza Strip, Palestine.
The TNI has even prepared several names of potential commanders for the peacekeeping troops.
However, the Head of the TNI Information Center, Major General Freddy Ardianzah, said that the official determination of the commander was still waiting for the government’s decision and mandate from the UN.
Indonesia is a country that fully supports the Palestinian struggle. This country also often criticizes Israel’s occupation and aggression in Gaza.
Israel launched aggression in October 2023. Since then, they have heavily shelled residents and civilian objects. As a result, more than 68,000 residents in Palestine were killed.
Last October, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire. However, Zionist troops still continue to violate the ceasefire.
