Anto said that the overflowing river water washed away the bridge installed by the community, TNI, Polri and other volunteers.
Under these conditions, a number of residents could not return home and were forced to stay overnight in refugee camps.
“I was going from Pasar Kayu Pasak to my house in Padang Kudu, when I arrived at the emergency bridge, the water was big and I immediately escaped to a safe location, because the location where I was standing was the area worst affected by the flash flood,” he said.
Agam Police Chief AKBP Muari said there were no casualties as a result of the overflowing river water, because the team searching for victims had stopped the search before the rain fell.
“There were no casualties and the joint SAR team had stopped searching for victims before the rain. The heavy equipment working on the river was already at the edge,” he said.
He said the provincial road from Padang Koto Gadang to Ampek Koto Palembayan, precisely in Sawah Laweh, the location of the house covered in flash flood material was closed when the river water overflowed.
This is for the safety of motorists or residents passing through the area when distributing basic necessities to victims in Palembayan.
“We temporarily closed the road while the water receded and after a few minutes the water receded. We deployed personnel in the area,” he said.
