The 70-year-old pope spoke to journalists on the plane after completing a visit to Türkiye and Lebanon.
The visit is his first trip outside Italy since becoming leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics in May.

He added that the visit to Lebanon aims to show that “dialogue and friendship between Muslims and Christians can be realized.”
Leo also called the stories he heard during the visit, about Christians and Muslims helping each other, as “a lesson, we should not be so afraid.”
The Pope, who was born in the United States, spent twenty years in Peru as a missionary in the Augustinian order.
He has frequently criticized rising nationalist sentiment in Europe and the US, and called for an end to the “inhumane treatment” of migrants under US President Donald Trump.
He also invited followers to reject the “closed-in way of thinking” which, according to him, has contributed to the growth of nationalism in various countries.
Leo said the Catholic Church “must open borders between nations and erase barriers between classes and races.”
