The Batam Customs and Excise Marine Patrol Team secured the KM Rasidin Ship in the waters of Hangop Island,

, Riau Islands (Kepri) on Wednesday (3/12).
The ship was seized because it was loaded with 1,250 logs without official documents from Tanjung Samak to Batam.Four crew members (ABK) were also arrested.
It is suspected that the wood transported by the ship was the result of the illegal logging trade which was detrimental to the country and had an impact on the environment.

“This illegal timber trade is not only detrimental to the country in terms of revenue and trade in forest products, but also has an impact on environmental sustainability. Especially if it comes from felling trees without permits. This activity can trigger natural disasters such as floods and landslides,” said Head of Batam Customs and Excise, Zaky Firmansyah, in his official statement, Friday (5/12).
According to him, Batam Customs supervision is not only aimed at enforcing the law, but also ensuring that trading activities do not damage the ecosystem.
Furthermore, the secured logs were handed over to the Batam KPHL Unit II Forest Police for further legal processing.
“We handed over the evidence and the ship to the Batam KPHL Unit II Forest Police Coordinator, as a form of handing over the case for further legal proceedings by the competent authority in the forestry sector,” he said.
