Massive attack hit a row of nine rented doors in East Cakung, East Jakarta, Wednesday (3/12).The East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-Department suspects that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit.

According to residents, smoke was first seen coming from one of the rental units before the fire grew and spread to the surrounding buildings.The flammable building materials and the close proximity of the rented houses meant that the fire spread quickly.

Residents tried to extinguish the fire with whatever tools they could, but the flames spread too quickly.”This is a place to live, rented like that. So the stall has a rented house that caught fire,” explained Nyaman.
The situation is made worse by very dense environmental conditions.Access to the location is also narrow so fire engines cannot get close to the fire point.
“Our personnel walked too far. From the main road it was around 1.5 km to deploy the hose. So around 40-60 hoses,” said Nyaman.
As a result, all equipment must be deployed manually from vehicles stopped on the main road.To prevent the fire from spreading further, the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Department deployed 12 support fleet units and 60 personnel.
“Yes, it’s densely populated. We follow up on quick reports that are needed, we also inform each other and help each other, reducing risks as little as possible,” added Nyaman.
Meanwhile, Head of the Operations Section of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-Department, Abdul, explained that the fire report was received at 20.14 WIB from a resident who came directly to the service post.
“We received the news at 20.14 WIB, then arrived at the location at around 20.26 WIB. We started operations at 20.27 WIB,” he said.
There were no casualties in this incident.However, material losses are estimated to be significant because all the rental doors were affected.The exact cause of the fire is still under further investigation.
